Meet Ampleforth Village GR585787

Route Starts at 18.45. Please arrive from 18.30 especially if you have not been before and have yet to submit a disclaimer and parq form.

Parking: Car park is in and around the village, as ever please park responsibly and carefully, car sharing where possible.

Route:  Long and short routes available.
Both routes
1. Head out of the village uphill through a narrow alleyway, after leaving the houses behind&climbing over a large stile continue to climb up the hill through field systems
2. On reaching a track bear right and follow for 1k to the road.
3. On reaching the road turn right, follow for 200m taking first footpath on left at Beacon House
4. Follow FP through fields on reaching the edge of the woodland route splits

Short route

5. Enters the woodland at GR 601799 then find Phil !

Long Route

Two Options!
A. Woodland. More navigational challenged!
6. Enter woods at GR 601799 and bear right on first main fire track

7. After 400m and at track junction keep left.
8. After 100m and at track crossroads bear right and follow downhill exiting woods after 800m
9. Follow fenceline heading east to rejoin with the public footpath

B. Farmland. Easier to navigate
6. Do not enter woodland follow footpath through fields hugging woodland for 1.5kmBoth A and B routes merge

10. Turn left onto Hag lane follow bridlepath (tarmac initally) uphill to Holly Bower Farm.
11. At GR590804 turn right off bridlepath onto trail (marked ‘cumulus’ on OS map) follow for 300m out to road
12. Turn right followed by immediate left (almost straight on)
12. Follow FP back to Ampleforth

Should be dry!
Highlights: This is a two view route! One way towards the open moors with heather in full bloom, and the other way out towards the Howardian Hills, enjoy.
Difficulty Rating: Medium, this has a nice mixture of woodland trail, footpath and is good running
Escape Route: Either back to Ampleforth or if on long route and towards Hag Lane, Sproxton also has a telephone.
Hazards: Livestock maybe present please walk where necessary and ensure all gates are closed. On short road sections please run on the right in single file.
