We were pleased to see 65 runners raring to go at our T.R.Y: Hovingham run on Wednesday 1st June.

The admin for this run was made easy thanks to the brilliant support shown by The Malt Shovel Pub who very kindly allowed us free parking and use of their facilities. Thank you Vanessa!

The run saw us leave the village crossing the stream and heading out on the Ebor Way past the graveyard. Turning right we headed on a circular route in an anti-clockwise direction and on excellent concrete bridleways. After approx. 2k the route split into the long and short variations. The short route headed along the old railway line, sheltering from the strong gales that were blowing as they ran in between two rows of trees. The long route turned right and followed a series of field hedgerows on a highly marked public right of way which took them to the outskirts of Stonegrave. They then swung left onto road for a short run in the direction of Cawton before picking up another right of way, and eventually re-joining with the short route just outside Cawton. Once at Cawton the route then picked up the Ebor Way again, snaking back in to Hovingham.

Aside from the wind it was a warm, dry and enjoyable evening run with excellent views across to Ampleforth Abbey in one direction, and the Moors in the other. Runners were treated to varying wildlife during the route including Nesting Birds, Hawks, Horses and new-born Calfs.

After the run almost everyone descended on the bar of The Malt Shovel for a drink, and we were even treated to a fantastic spread of snacking sandwiches and roast potatoes to keep everyones stomaches happy until they had driven safely home for their evening meal.

Another fantastic run with fantastic people – 50% returning runners and 50% first time T.R.Y’ers!

Check out the snaps below.

Next up is Naburn on Wednesday 8th June… see you there!
