A day out on the Moors with T.R.Y

Saturday 21st May saw our second T.R.Y Saturday run, and a trip to Helmsley – North Yorkshire.

15 runners braved the changeable weather that saw sunshine, warmth, wind and torrential rain, changing between each throughout the two and a half hours of running.

Medium Route turned Epic AdventureWe had three routes today – a short route that ran an enjoyable 10K, a long route that pushed on a bit and covered 15K, and a medium route that set out aiming for 12K and at 9.5K made a collective decision to “go back the scenic route” – although I’m not sure they quite anticipated the 17K total that they hit by the time they returned to the car park at Baxton’s Wood, North of Helmsley.

The terrain was… not so flat, with a mix of gravel track, rocky track, muddy track, all of the previous minus the “track”, and pretty much everything in between! We were however graced with beautiful views out across the Moors.

Highlights included a path that didn’t exist, fence hopping, Bulls in fields, getting attacked by a pack of killer puppies in a farm yard that tried to lick us all to death, and did we mention hills and mud already?

Once we were all safely back at the car park (and just in time before another torrential rain shower) we freshened up, changed into clean dry clothing, then headed back South to Helmsley to pay a visit to Scott’s Fish and Chip Restaurant, who fed us well – service with a smile, and a few laughs at the same time.

A special mention to Abbi Ollive, who was hoping for an 8K route, but at 17K finished with a smile on her face. Great running Abbi!

And, on that note, we present to you the runner pics… enjoy!
