The Latest

The first ever T.R.Y: Mini Holiday took place from Friday 15th July (PM) to Sunday 17th July, with 11 T.R.Y’ers in attendance.

With a mix of all running abilities this weekend was tough but achievable for all, with many of the group conquering fears and moving beyond their comfort zones.

On arrival at approximately 8pm at West View Barn near Ingleton the group were treated to homemade chilli before setting out on a night-time head-torch run exploring Thornton Force and saying hello to Bats and Lizards along the way!

Saturday saw the group run a half marathon distance circular route taking in a complete ascent of Ingleborough, which included 40mph gusts on the summit. On the descent we even managed to get mixed up with the Ingleton Fell Race, though sadly none of us won it 🙂 We also spent an hour prior to leaving base camp covering basic navigation such as how to give find a six figure grid reference, features of a map, orientation on the ground, and judging pace.

Saturday evening was a social, paying a visit to the local pub for a meal. Trail Leader Phil became the Ingleton Sheep Whisperer and made a wooly friend for life. Then everyone hit the sack with tired heads and bodies.

Sunday saw a quick clean-down of the accommodation before heading towards home, stopping en-route for a “nice and gentle” walk at Malham, taking in the slightly scary climb up Goredale Scarr, Malham Tarn and down via Malham Cove and the Limestone Carpets – 6 miles in total.

During the weekend those in attendance achieved many personal goals, and did things that they wouldn’t normally be comfortable doing – such as running in the wild at night, taking on 1000mtrs of ascent and running 22K (when the furthest ever run was only 10K), and for many the amazing experience of scaling Goredale Scarr. Teamwork and trust were key this weekend, and every single person gave it absolutely everything!

A fantastic well done to everyone that came along, and we are already planning our next T.R.Y: Mini Holiday!

Here’s a rather large selection of runner pics from our epic trip to the Yorkshire Dales. Enjoy…
