Route Starts at 18.45. Pleae arrive from 18.30 especially if you have not been before and have yet to submit a disclaimer and parq form.

Parking: Car park is very small, on arrival please park tightly and carefully and if possible car share to reduce number of vehicles.

Route:  Long and short routes available.

Both routes head out north on the minor road towards Wharram le street following the centenary way taking the first footpath directly straight ahead at the bend in the road. At the next junction bear left onto station road. Shortly after that the routes split.

Short route: At station houses take the first left and follow the disused railway line through the valley to the ruined medieval village of Wharram Percy. Take some time to explore the beautiful little church and ruins then ignoring the obvious footpath back towards the car park (The yorkshire wolds way) continue south enjoying fine views across deep dale. On reaching the top of the climb and in the field corner take the first bridleway on the left before rejoining the road and the centenary way back to the car park.

Long Route: At station houses follow the undulating road for approximately 4k towards Birdsall bearing left at the junction at the top of the hill. After 4k and not long after Toft Hill Farm at the sharp bend just before Birdsall take the UNMARKED footpath on a reasonably defined track, cast your eye up to the red farm building at the top of the hill (Toisland Farm) this is where you are going! after the track finishes the path winds its way up Birdsall Brow to the top of Toisland Wold where you will reach the aforementioned farm and be given magnificent views across the Wolds. After leaving the farm and on reaching the road/track turn left to follow the Yorkshire Wolds Way and Chalkland Way along a really pleasant track towards North Plantation. This route will then reverse the outgoing short route heading down Deep Dale to visit the ruined village before making its final ascent from the village on the short path up White Hill on the Yorkshire Wolds Way back to the car park.

Drinks afterwards in the Middleton Arms North Grimston – Please park in the large car park at the rear.

Surface: Short: 20% road, 80% field paths. Long: 30% road 70% field paths.
Mud Factor:
5-10% Very Muddy. 10-20% Just Muddy. 70-80% mud free
Highlights:
Make no doubt about it this is a tough route, particularly the long but with a fine medieval village, chalk fields, hidden valleys, and sweeping views this is one not to be missed.
Difficulty Rating: Short: Medium a pleasant route with interesting features. Long: Difficult possibly the hardest yet!
Escape Route:
Short: Return via same path or use the interim path back to the car park. Long: Route uses a long road section which can be used for escape
Hazards: Long: There are two fields of cows, if they are nearby please walk rather than run past them. There is a long road section please ensure that you remain in single file on the right.
