First Event of the Trail Running Calendar.

A shorter run of around 5k (up-to-10k if you’ve got the legs) which is simple to navigate and a longer loop of ~12k for the more adventurous. All along the lovely banks of the River Derwent.

A pint and some food in the Stone Trough afterwards.

Our inaugural event is a FREE one. It’s an opportunity for everyone to get together and have a go!

Date: Wednesday 4th May 2016

Meet: 6:30pm ready for a 6:45pm step-off.

Where: Kirkham Abbey

Distance/Duration: 1 Hour – approx. 5-10k (Short) & 12K (Long)

Grade: Shorter (MEDIUM) & Longer (HARD)

Course: Both routes go out alongside the river. This first section of which WILL BE MUDDY so be prepared but it gets better so bear with it. The short route is a simple to navigate out-and-back. You can run for 30 mins (or less) then turn around and run back, or get to the Mill to see the bluebells before heading back. The longer route crosses the river at the picturesque weir at Howsham Mill and returns via a woodland. Trail Leaders recommendation – choose the long route for the best scenery.

Parking: There is limited parking at the Priory, and the same in Kirkham. Please car-share wherever possible.

Cost: 1st ever T.R.Y event so its FREE!

Surface: Forest Trail 50%, Public Footpath 30% Road 20%

Mud Factor: Very Muddy 20%, Just Muddy10% & 70% Mud free!

Highlights: Lovely riverside run, featuring two weirs, woodland, bluebells, buzzards and keep your eyes peeled for Otter! boggy in places but plenty of sections for a leg stretch for those racing snakes.

Ensure you wear suitable clothing and footwear, and bring with you any additional equipment and nutrition that you may require. Parking will be limited so please car-share wherever possible – feel free to use the event page and/or the Facebook Closed Group to arrange lifts etc.

Post Run: A pint and some food in the Stone Trough, Kirkham – so don’t forget some cash!
